New tax Breaks for Poorest Americans

House votes to extend inheritance and dividend tax breaks
to lowest income americans

Under heavy criticism for denying tax relief to lower income families, the House voted this week to correct their oversight. The house extended cuts to the inheritance and dividend taxes to the lowest income brackets.

Texas representative Tom DeLay told reporters, "We originally didn't give them tax breaks because we could win without their votes. We intended to redistrict them out of the electoral process anyway. The move proved to be so unpopular with voters we did care about, however, that we rushed to make it look like it was an oversight and not intentional."

Under new house legislation people in the lowest tax brackets will pay no inheritance or dividend tax unless the inheritance or dividends push them out of their current tax brackets.

"So if Uncle Joe dies and leaves you his pocket watch, you won't pay," DeLay explained.

When a reporter pointed out that no would would be taxed for a cigarette lighter anyway, DeLay said, "Well, we just made it official."
