Blair won't get Congressional Medal of Honor

House speaker delays blairs honor "indefinitely"

7/17/03: House Speaker Dennis Hastert announced a delay in awarding the Congressional Medal of Honor to honor Tony Blair yesterday afternoon. Congress originally intended to award the medal to the British Prime Minister for his role in the American Invasion of Iraq.

The official reason given by the Speaker was a delay in striking the medal. Hastert later told reporters that members of Congress discovered Blair isn't even American. "The guy's a fucking foreigner, for Christ's sake," Hastert told reporters. "Who would've thought the President would even give him the time of day."

"Britain" the House Speaker added, shaking his head in profound disbelief. "Didn't we fight a war with them or something?"

After their joint speech to Congress this afternoon, Bush reacted to the news by saying, "We got what we needed from England. If we need them for anything else, I'll have someone give them a call.
